The Shires Cheltenham Gag is designed to offer riders more control and is mostly used on horses which lean on or take a hold of the bit. It's a running gag with eggbutt bit rings, preventing the lips from being pinched. This bit has been designed to be used with gag cheeks; the gag cheeks fit through the slots in the bit ring to give a clearly defined aid. It's recommended that this bit is used with two sets of reins, with one set attached to the gag cheek straps and the other to the bit rings. This bit is commonly used when more control is required when going cross country or show jumping.
