The Shires Brass Alloy Flat Ring Eggbutt Snaffle With Lozenge is a double jointed snaffle designed with a thin, 13mm mouthpiece which can give a slightly stronger action. However, a thin mouthpiece may be more comfortable for horses with a smaller mouth or larger tongue as it allows for more room inside the mouth. The lozenge disperses pressure evenly across the tounge; the double joint ensures there is no interference with the palate when pressure is applied. The brass alloy mouthpiece combines copper alloyed with a harder metal to produce a bit which is durable and warms quickly. It also gives a more palatable taste than a stainless steel alternative, increasing acceptance of the bit and aiding salivation.
The fixed Eggbutt cheeks on this snaffle are designed to prevent the bit from pinching the lips and corners of the mouth. They also stabilise the mouthpiece which can give confidence to a green or uncertain horse, encouraging them to take the contact forward. The bit rings are smaller on the smaller bits to stay in proportion with the horse's head.
